Sean (Han) Meng is a Chinese born multidisciplinary designer based in Los Angeles. Trained as an architect, his work moves across architecture, fashion, and object design, approaching each discipline as part of a continuous design field. He received a Bachelor of Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design from the IDEAS program at the University of California Los Angeles.
His research and design interests focus on constructing a multi-agent design system (seam) that bridges disciplinary domains (patch), exploring the intersection of emerging technologies, computational design, and material systems. Through this framework, he investigates how design methodologies can migrate across scales and mediums, from built environments to garments and objects.
Sean has contributed to architectural projects at Woods Bagot, Isozaki & HuQian Partners, and PMA+Plasma. He also worked as a research assistant at Epiphyte Lab, where he helped prototype a machine learning pipeline that predicts ecological growth patterns on architectural surfaces. His research was published as co-author in the paper Lithopic House: Computational Design Framework for re-Shaping Ecologically Attuned Architectural Systems out of Granular Matter at the ACADIA 2022 conference Hybrids and Haecceities.
Parallel to his architectural work, Sean has explored fashion as a spatial and material practice. At Carnegie Mellon University he designed and produced the runway collections Evanescens and Re:partus for the Lunar Gala Fashion Show.
